October's Quiet Passage

The story

On the last day of October, color still gathers thickly along the path. Orange leaves fill one side of the view while bare branches trace fine lines against the pale sky. Fallen leaves lie separately on the dark pavement, then collect into a rust-colored band farther ahead. The wooden rails draw the eye onward, toward figures made small by the trees and the rising distance.
