About this piece

A sand-covered boardwalk passes between weathered posts and rope rails toward a pale beach and a narrow band of blue sea. Sunlit palm fronds arch across the upper frame, their gold and green tones contrasting with the expansive blue sky and white clouds. The receding walkway gives this coastal scene a quiet sense of invitation.

The story

In the August light, the passage opens beneath a canopy of palms. Sand gathers over the wooden boards, softening their edges and filling the spaces between them. On either side, ropes dip from post to post as grasses crowd the margins. Beyond the last pair of posts, the sea holds a thin blue line beneath towering clouds. There is nothing to hurry toward, only the shore.
