Where Wood Meets Water

About this piece
A deeply furrowed tree trunk fills the right foreground, its twisting branches spreading a green canopy above a sandy shore and turquoise sea. Strong sunlight picks out the ridges of the wood and the glossy leaves, setting their intricate textures against broad bands of water and sky. The composition balances sculptural weight with the quiet openness of the horizon.
The story
Late January finds this shore bright with green leaves and clear turquoise water. Light follows the grain of the trunk, slipping into its folds and leaving the deepest hollows dark. Beyond the branches, small ripples soften the boundary between sand and sea. The eye travels outward to the horizon, then returns to the tangled wood, where every turn offers another place to linger.
