A Frame for Evening

A weathered blue fish-cleaning station at Lime Tree Bay Resort on Long Key, Florida Keys, forms a broad rectangle around the sea and a distant kayak. Orange light fills the layered clouds above cool blue water, while a dock enters from the right. The frontal composition gives this working waterfront structure the stillness of a proscenium.

The story

Late August light spreads peach and gold across the sky over Long Key. Beneath the Lime Tree Bay sign, the empty hooks and worn counter speak quietly of the Florida Keys’ fishing culture. A small kayak occupies the opening between the blue posts, its passengers reduced to tiny figures against the water. The dock reaches out from shore, and the evening seems to rest on the low horizon.
