A weathered concrete bridge stretches diagonally from the right foreground toward the distant horizon, its repeated arches spanning turquoise water. Sunlight illuminates the inner curves and rectangular parapet openings, while broad shadows soften across the water below. The contrast between solid structure and gently blurred surface lends the scene a spacious stillness.

The story

Late January opens onto turquoise water and a wide, cloud-strewn sky. Beneath the nearest arch, sunlight forms a pale wedge against the stained concrete. Each successive opening grows smaller until the bridge becomes a thin line at the horizon. Water softens the shadows below, loosening the geometry into bands of green and blue.
