About this piece

Weathered stumps and upright root formations punctuate vivid turquoise shallows, meeting an orange-brown bank along the right side of the frame. Bright light reveals submerged textures and deeply ridged wood, while the diagonal division of cool and warm color lends this close landscape an almost abstract stillness.

The story

In this July scene, the water gathers blue around the exposed wood. Small leaves and fragments rest between the roots, their shapes visible through the luminous shallows. A hollow stump holds a darker pocket of water, a quiet center within the saturated color. Along the bank, each wooden ridge gives the eye somewhere to linger.
