About this piece

Seen from below, tall bamboo stems converge toward a dense canopy pierced by small openings of blue sky. Direct sunlight flares at the upper left, illuminating narrow leaves in yellow-green and tracing the segmented stems. The rising diagonals lend this enclosed grove a sense of expansive height.

The story

On this August day, light finds a narrow opening between the bamboo stems. It turns the leaves translucent, while deeper within the grove green gathers into shadow. The eye follows one ringed column upward, then another, until their separate paths disappear into foliage. Beyond this intricate ceiling, the sky remains visible only in fragments.
