A panoramic desert landscape stretches between isolated buttes and a towering, sunlit cliff at the right edge. The low sun warms the red terrain beneath a sky grading from gold and pink to blue, while a pale dirt road draws the eye across the sparsely vegetated plain. Broad horizontal space and the measured intervals between rock formations lend the scene a monumental stillness.

The story

September light rests along the edges of the stone, turning the nearest cliff a vivid orange. Between two distant buttes, the sun hangs just above the horizon, a small bright presence in the immense open space. A pale road bends across the red earth and narrows into the distance. Sparse grasses catch the glow in the foreground, their fine stems answering the great vertical faces of rock.
