About this piece

A shallow stream threads through mossy rocks and dense foliage, passing a small stone lantern near the center of the frame. Filtered light picks out the veins of broad leaves and the rough surfaces of boulders, while the softened water draws the eye from the shaded background into the foreground. The composition balances abundant growth with the quiet continuity of flowing water.

The story

On this September day, green fills nearly every space above the stream. Water slips between the stones, gathering into pale ribbons where the bed drops. The small lantern stands close to the bank, its dark opening framed by weathered stone. Beneath arching leaves, the current carries the light onward.
