Lanterns On Turquoise

About this piece
Four decorative lanterns rest on floating bases encircled by colorful glass spheres and netting, their dark metal frames contrasting with luminous turquoise water. Staggered across the frame, they establish a measured rhythm of near and far, while rippled reflections soften their upright forms. Rocks and foliage at the upper right give this bright, tranquil arrangement a sheltered edge.
The story
On this July day, the water carries four small islands of glass and metal. Blue, green, and amber spheres catch the daylight around lanterns that have no need to shine. Ripples stretch their reflections into wavering lines, then break them apart. Along the rocky edge, green fronds reach toward the water, and the spaces between the floats remain open and bright.
