The Green Architecture

About this piece

A close botanical study frames layered, pointed green bracts among a dense fan of upright stalks. Light catches yellow-green edges and blue-green surfaces, while dry brown fibers interrupt their smooth geometry. The tightly cropped composition gives the plant a sculptural presence against the dark foliage behind it.

The story

In this November frame, green fills nearly every opening. Light travels along the stalks and gathers at the pointed tips of the overlapping bracts. Dry fibers curl across them, fine and brown against the broad, luminous surfaces. Between these rising forms, pockets of shade hold the garden beyond at a distance.
