A Garden Looks Skyward

About this piece

An animal-shaped garden sculpture rises against a pale blue sky, its wire framework packed with moss and clusters of succulent rosettes. Bright light reveals red-edged leaves, curved metal whiskers and a blue-green metal ear, while a glossy eye reflects the surroundings. The upward viewpoint and generous open sky give this planted form a quietly animated presence.

The story

Late June light catches the green rosettes climbing toward the sculpture’s face. Above them, curved metal whiskers reach into the clear sky, and a dark, shining eye gathers a small reflection of the world. Dry moss and cool blue-green metal meet along the exposed framework. The garden takes an animal’s shape, holding its head up as living leaves soften its contours.
