A Fan Of Green

About this piece
A dense fan of green stalks surrounds stacked, pointed bracts, their smooth surfaces threaded with dry brown fibers. Bright light draws yellow-green tones from the broad foreground leaf, while deep shadows separate the crossing stems behind it. The close framing gives the foliage an architectural rhythm without concealing its torn edges and weathered textures.
The story
On this November day, green fills nearly every opening in the frame. Light passes through a broad leaf, revealing fine parallel veins and the irregular teeth of its split edge. Behind it, stalks rise and spread while pointed bracts reach sideways into the gaps. Dry fibers hang among the living surfaces, their copper-brown tangles holding a quieter counterpoint to the luminous green.
