November in Pink

About this piece

A pink hibiscus fills the right side of the frame, its projecting floral column rising diagonally toward the open blue background. Strong sunlight reveals the fine creases of its petals and the branching veins of surrounding leaves, while softly blurred foliage lends depth to this saturated botanical study.

The story

Late November finds the hibiscus open to the light. Pink petals curl and fold around a deep throat, their thin surfaces bright as stretched silk. Small golden anthers punctuate the long red column above them. Around the bloom, green leaves alternate between luminous veins and deep shadow, enclosing a quiet pocket of colour.
