A central stand of slender pines rises above a calm pond, its reflection extending into the blue of the water. Foreground reeds and irregular patches of floating vegetation interrupt the mirrored surface, giving texture to the broad, open composition.

The story

I framed the pond with the grasses close in front of me and the pines gathered across the water. Their reflections made the distance feel smaller, as though the far bank had quietly reached toward my feet. I wanted to keep both the clarity of that mirrored grove and the uneven textures along the shore. Between them, the open blue water gave my eye a place to rest.
