About this piece

A deeply weathered tree spreads its twisting trunk and limbs across layered red rock, its exposed grain filling the foreground. Strong sunlight draws out copper and silver tones in the wood, while green foliage frames openings of vivid blue sky. The low viewpoint gives the sweeping form a sculptural presence.

The story

September light settles into the grooves of the wood, making each ridge distinct. A long limb reaches across the red stone, its curve echoed by the grain of the broad trunk. Above it, small green leaves hold their color against the blue. White clouds offer a soft counterpoint to the splintered edges below. The eye follows the wood slowly, finding no straight path.
