About this piece

A broad sweep of pine woodland meets its reflection across the still surface of a pond. Warm light defines the slender trunks, while grasses and patches of floating vegetation interrupt the mirrored landscape along the foreground and right bank.

The story

I framed the pond with enough room for the trees to appear twice. Along the far bank, their slender trunks made a rhythm that continued almost unbroken into the water. My eye kept returning to the opening between the wooded shores, where pale sky and reflection seemed to meet. The grasses nearest me offered a small interruption, a reminder of the bank beneath my feet as I looked into that doubled world.
