About this piece

Viewed from below, sculpted sandstone walls enclose a winding ribbon of blue sky. A sunburst at the upper left illuminates fine striations and sweeping orange folds, while deep rust-colored shadows give the vertical composition a sense of shelter and scale.

The story

Early September light enters the narrow opening and catches the sandstone edges. Overhead, the blue sky slips between walls that turn and fold beyond view. Fine lines follow each curve, gathering in shadow before emerging into orange and gold. For a moment, the enclosing stone seems almost weightless beneath the brightness.
