A narrow cascade descends through a framework of weathered boulders, its softened water contrasting with the grain of stone and the sharp edges of leaves. Deep greens and warm mineral tones surround the pale current, drawing the eye from the shaded falls into the foreground stream.
The story
I framed the cascade through the grasses, letting the stream lead my eye back toward the opening between the rocks. There was so much texture around that small fall: rough stone, fine moss, leaves overlapping in the shade. I wanted the water to remain the quietest part of the photograph. As its movement softened into a pale ribbon, the boulders seemed heavier, and the little passage between them became enough of a world.
