A massive tree spreads curtains of aerial roots around a small brick arch, with garden paths branching to either side. Dappled sunlight brightens the red paving beneath dense green foliage, while empty benches balance the wide composition. The intimate doorway offers a quiet counterpoint to the tree’s extraordinary scale.

The story

On this March day, light filters through the canopy and gathers in bright patches on the bricks. Roots descend like loose threads, then thicken into folds around the little arch. The paths offer several ways onward, but the shaded opening holds the eye. Between the empty benches, the garden seems to make room for a long pause.
