About this piece
Two vividly patterned grasshoppers rest one atop the other amid soil, dry leaves, and small green shoots. Light picks out their yellow and orange bodies, black markings, and finely veined wings against a softly blurred brown-and-green background. Raised hind legs and reaching antennae give this close encounter an intricate, angular composition.
The story
On this July day, the ground holds a small world of green shoots, brittle leaves, and broken twigs. Two grasshoppers occupy its center, their bright bodies pressed together above the rough soil. Black markings trace their armor, while folded wings carry delicate networks of orange and rose. Around them, the blurred vegetation softens, leaving each joint and slender antenna momentarily distinct.
