About this piece

Framed by evergreen boughs and sparsely leafed branches, a wooden mill rises above a sequence of low waterfalls. The softened movement of water contrasts with weathered timber and angular stone, while scattered orange and red leaves mark the season.

The story

I let the stream lead my eye toward the mill, following its pale ribbons between the rocks. Through the branches, the wooden walls seemed almost another part of the forest, their dark grain echoing the surrounding trunks. I wanted to hold that balance in the frame: water moving through the foreground, the wheel tucked beneath the building, and autumn color lingering in the spaces between bare limbs.
