About this piece

A weathered tree rises along the right edge, its sweeping limb framing red rock towers beyond a sheer foreground wall. Strong sunlight articulates the grain of exposed wood and the fractured stone, while scattered green shrubs lead the eye toward distant blue mountains. The composition balances the enclosing foreground with an expansive, cloud-filled sky.

The story

September light falls across the bare rock, gathering in warm ridges and leaving narrow seams of shadow. Overhead, a long wooden limb traces a rough boundary against the blue. Small shrubs hold their green among the slabs and loose stones. Beyond them, rock towers rise beneath white clouds, their distant contours echoing the broken edges nearby. The eye travels outward while the old wood remains close, every groove sharply visible.
