The Shape of Endurance

About this piece

A weathered, leafless tree dominates this black-and-white desert landscape, its twisted trunk and spreading branches set against streaks of high cloud. Strong sunlight reveals the grain of exposed wood and casts branching shadows across the sand, while scrub and distant rock formations establish depth. The composition gives the tree a sculptural presence, at once imposing and fragile.

The story

September light falls sharply across the sand, tracing every ridge in the weathered wood. The tree spreads its bare limbs through the sky, their dark angles crossing the pale sweep of clouds. Beyond it, scattered rock towers rise above the low scrub. At its base, fallen branches lie beside their shadows, and the eye follows each winding line back toward the trunk.
