The story

September light gathers on the orange stone, tracing fractures and long, sloping seams. Beneath the broad arch, a band of shade curves toward the boulder-strewn ground. Hikers appear small against the surrounding walls, their bright clothing reduced to brief points of color. Wisps of cloud cross the blue openings, and green shrubs hold the lower edge of this immense stone world.
