Seen through a rough-edged opening in shadowed masonry, a long brick fort wall recedes beside a reflective moat toward the sea. Strong sunlight warms the repeating arches and window openings, contrasting with the saturated blues of water and sky. The enclosing foreground gives the expansive view an intimate, sheltered stillness.

The story

January light reaches through the broken masonry, catching the uneven edges of brick and mortar. Beyond the shade, the long wall carries a rhythm of openings toward the sea. Its reflection trembles slightly in the moat, loosening the strict lines into bands of gold and blue. At the beginning of the year, the narrow horizon offers a quiet counterpoint to the weight of the walls.
