Where Walls Meet Water

About this piece

A shadowed brick opening frames a coastal fort, its long wall receding toward the sea above a still, reflective moat. In black and white, strong sunlight distinguishes the weathered masonry from the smooth water, while repeated apertures draw the eye toward the distant horizon.

The story

The year is only six days old, and light settles along the broken edges of the opening. Beyond the shade, rows of brick stretch toward the sea, their small dark windows repeated in the water below. A few clouds soften the broad sky. Within this rough frame, the horizon offers a quiet release from the weight of the walls.
