A Sky of Wings

About this piece

Numerous birds wheel above a low belt of dense scrub, their dark silhouettes scattered across a broad, softly lit sky. The black-and-white composition contrasts the open air with tangled branches below, while larger birds in the foreground give depth to the restless gathering.

The story

January opens beneath a sky threaded with wings. Above the tangled scrub, birds cross and recross the pale light, their forms shifting from slender marks to broad, sharply angled silhouettes. Below them, exposed branches hold a quieter tangle of lines. The year is only days old, and the air already seems full of arrivals and departures.
