The story

January light reaches the far wall, turning its rows of brick a deep gold. Within the broken opening, shadow settles into rough mortar and the loose fragments underfoot. A narrow bridge crosses the water, its straight line answering the jagged edges nearby. Beyond it, a palm rises beneath drifting clouds. The wall no longer closes the view; it gathers sky and water into its unfinished shape.
