Seen from below, immense red rock arches enclose irregular windows of blue sky above a sloping foreground of boulders and shrubs. Strong sunlight reveals fractured surfaces and layered stone, while deep shade beneath the overhead span gives the composition weight and depth. Small patches of green temper the monumental scale with a sense of persistence.

The story

September light falls across the red stone, reaching the ledges while leaving the underside of the great span in shadow. Through its opening, the sky appears both distant and close, a field of blue held within rough edges. A pale cloud occupies the smaller window below. Shrubs gather in the broken ground, their fine leaves catching the brightness. Beneath these immense curves, the eye settles for a moment on something small and green.
