About this piece

A broad scrub-covered plain leads past bands of orange rock to a dark mountain ridge beneath towering clouds and distant curtains of rain. Sunlight warms the foreground and exposed cliffs, while the low horizon gives the turbulent sky a commanding presence.

The story

September light rests on the golden grasses, reaching across the plain to the orange ledges. Beyond them, the mountain holds a dark, uneven line beneath the clouds. Rain descends in soft blue-gray veils, blurring the distance without concealing it. The foreground remains bright, suspended between the warmth of sunlight and the approaching shade.
