The story

September light spreads across the red ground, catching each low shrub and exposed ledge. A twisted tree stands before the distant towers, its divided trunk casting a narrow shadow over the gravel. Beyond its branches, the rock faces hold alternating bands of brightness and shade. White clouds stretch across the blue, their soft edges a counterpoint to the stone.
