Isolated red rock buttes rise across a broad desert valley, their layered slopes dotted with sparse vegetation and crossed by winding roads. A low sun burns near the horizon, warming the rock faces beneath a sky that grades from gold to blue. The massive cliff at right anchors the panoramic composition, balancing the slender towers and open distances.

The story

On this September day, the low sun rests in a narrow interval between stone towers. Orange light touches the cliffs while the distant valley recedes into blue-gray haze. Below, a pale road bends around the rough contours of the ground, briefly disappearing among folds of red earth. The eye follows it, then returns to the stillness of the rocks and the small, brilliant circle of the sun.
