Steps Beneath the Blue

About this piece
A blue-domed church crowned with a cross rises above weathered white walls, with a smaller bell tower at the right. Curving parapets and white-edged steps lead the eye from the foreground toward the dome, while strong sunlight reveals cracks, worn plaster, and deep recesses. The saturated blue and layered architectural curves give the scene a quiet, sculptural presence.
The story
Late July light settles sharply on the white edges of the steps. The stairway bends out of sight, its enclosing wall carrying the small cracks and stains of exposure. Above the roofs, the blue dome holds its rounded shape against a nearly matching sky. Narrow windows remain dark, and the cross stands clear of everything below. For a moment, the descent offers no urgency, only another curve of wall and light.
