Weathered blue shutters and a locked blue door sit in a white plaster wall dotted with stones and sharp shadows.

Behind the Blue

About this piece

A shuttered window and paneled door, both painted a weathered blue, form unequal rectangles within a white plaster facade. Directional sunlight reveals peeling paint, rough plaster, and protruding stones, whose shadows interrupt the orderly framing. The closed openings lend the composition a quiet, guarded presence.

The story

Late July light settles across the wall, catching the raised edges of blue paint. The shutters remain barred, and a small padlock holds the door closed. Each exposed stone casts a dark shape over the pale plaster, making its modest depth suddenly visible. Nothing reveals the rooms beyond; the eye stays outside, following the grain of wood beneath the color.
