Where Light Waits

About this piece

A weathered cream double door stands within a rounded stone arch, framed by rough white plaster. Strong sunlight brings out the granular masonry and worn wooden panels, while blue sky and magenta flowers punctuate the upper edge. The nearly symmetrical, frontal composition gives this closed threshold a quiet monumentality.

The story

July light rests on the white wall, catching every ridge of plaster. Beneath the stone arch, the cream panels hold a softer shade, their paint worn thin along the edges. A black handle curves away from the wood, the smallest gesture in an otherwise still façade. Above, bright flowers reach into the blue; below, the shallow stone step waits.
