Sculpted sandstone walls enclose a narrow canyon passage, their layered surfaces glowing orange around a pale shaft of sunlight. The vertical composition follows the beam down to the footprint-marked sand, balancing the weight of the rock with the luminous air. Deep recesses lend the scene a sheltered, contemplative stillness.
The story
September sunlight enters through a narrow opening and falls into the canyon as a pale column. Fine particles catch its brightness, briefly visible against the shaded stone. Along the walls, rust-colored curves fold into violet-brown recesses, their thin strata tracing one bend after another. Footprints cross the sand beneath the beam, but no one occupies the passage. For this moment, light fills the space between the traces of passing feet.
