Crown of Sunlight

About this piece
Seen from close to its base, a palm rises through the vertical frame, its textured trunk curving toward a crown of green and golden-brown fronds. Strong sunlight separates the fine leaflets against a saturated cyan sky, while wisps of cloud soften the expansive space around them. The low viewpoint gives the tree a sculptural presence, both grounded and buoyant.
The story
On this July day, the eye follows the palm upward, leaving the ground behind. Rings and rough patches of bark give way to narrow ribbons of foliage, some green, others the colour of straw. Sunlight catches their edges against the blue. Between the fronds, thin clouds leave room for the gaze to wander.
