Gold Above the Earth

About this piece

Yellow flowers, unopened buds, and fading blooms rise on slender stems against a softly blurred, earth-toned background. Bright light saturates the petals, while the denser grouping at left opens into generous space above the scattered flowers at right. Fine dry stalks thread through the composition, lending its warmth a delicate, spare counterpoint.

The story

On this September day, yellow petals hold the light above a wash of ochre and peach. Thin stems cross one another like loosely drawn lines, carrying flowers at different stages of opening and fading. Dry stalks weave between them, pale and almost weightless. Across the open space, each small bloom seems to keep its own measure of the day.
