The story

July light fills the space between the palm fronds, turning their edges gold. Below, their shadows lay a second canopy across the waterfront path. Small ripples break the blue water into shifting threads of brightness, while the pale marker stands beyond them on its narrow bed of rock. The horizon remains open, giving the eye somewhere to rest.
