About this piece

A branching tree anchors the right side of this landscape, its divided trunk framing a starburst of low sunlight. Golden seed heads and deep green shadows texture the hillside, while scattered rocks and sparse trees punctuate the open ground beneath a broad blue sky.

The story

I framed the hillside with the nearest tree holding one edge, leaving the sky room to open above the grass. Through a narrow gap in the trunk, the sun became a small, sharp star. What drew me was the contrast: dark stones settled into the slope, delicate seed heads catching gold, and branches tracing uneven lines overhead. I wanted to keep that balance between the weight of the land and the light moving across it.
