Sunlit grasses fill the foreground of Mike Gedj’s expansive landscape, their fine textures giving way to rounded green slopes and distant, cloud-lined ridges. A wire fence crosses the lower frame, adding a quiet human boundary to the sweep of land and sky.
The story
I framed the hillside with the grasses close enough to hold their individual shapes. Beyond the fence, the land opened in layers: a green shoulder, a broad plain, then distant ridges softened by haze. Light entered from the right, catching the seed heads and washing detail from the horizon. I wanted to keep both scales in view—the small brightness of each stem and the distance that made everything nearby feel briefly precious.
