Mike Gedj frames a tiered waterfall through a narrow opening between weathered boulders. The softly rendered water contrasts with the sharp textures of stone, moss, and lichen, while the turquoise pool draws the eye from the foreground toward the falls.
The story
I let the opening between the boulders guide my frame. Beyond their rough surfaces, the pool held a blue-green depth that seemed to gather all the surrounding shade. My eye followed the water upward, from the narrow channel to the pale ribbons spilling over moss. I wanted to keep both sensations in the photograph: the weight of the stone close to me and the lightness of water moving beyond it.
