About this piece

A tall tree bearing vivid red foliage anchors the left side of a sunlit clearing, its spreading limbs outlined against an expansive blue sky. Bare woodland and scattered evergreens surround the bright grass, while a narrow strip of road marks the foreground. Strong daylight brings the bark and fine branches into sharp relief, balancing autumn's sparse canopy with saturated color.

The story

Early November leaves much of the woodland open to the sky. Red foliage still gathers along the great tree's branches, with blue showing through every gap. Below, the grass holds a luminous green, and shadows stretch across the clearing. At the roadside, this lingering color gives the season a quiet pause.
