October Above the Falls

About this piece
Scarlet and orange foliage fills the foreground above a broad curtain of falling water, while smaller cascades lead toward a weathered wooden building among trees. Soft daylight distinguishes the finely ribbed leaves from the smooth, pale streaks of the falls. The layered composition holds autumn’s vivid color against the subdued grays and browns of rock, timber, and woodland.
The story
On this last day of October, red leaves reach across the water in long, tapering rows. The falls descend in pale threads, gathering into white turbulence below. Beyond them, a wooden building rests among thinning branches, its weathered boards blending with the trunks. Autumn seems to linger closest to the eye, bright against a woodland already yielding to bare lines.
