About this piece

A deeply textured trunk anchors the foreground, its exposed roots spreading across sand and fallen leaves while broad branches arc above the shore. Beyond this intricate frame, pale sand and shallow water form horizontal bands beneath an expansive blue sky.

The story

I framed the shore from beneath the tree, letting its heavy branches hold the sky above the water. At my feet, roots crossed the sand in every direction, gathering fallen leaves and broken twigs. Beyond them, the sea offered a simpler geometry: long, quiet bands of blue reaching toward the horizon. I wanted to keep both in the photograph—the tangled detail close at hand and the open distance just beyond the shade.
