A breaking wave throws a high veil of spray between fractured coastal rocks, while turquoise water and white foam fill the channels below. Clear daylight reveals the stone’s coarse surfaces and pale mineral bands; the broad composition balances the rising spray against the massive rock face at right.

The story

On this late-June day, the sea rises into a curtain of bright droplets. For an instant, the spray reaches above the stone, its fine grains suspended against blue sky. Below, white foam threads the narrow passages and spreads around the low rocks. The wave falls away, leaving the darkened edges of the stone exposed to the next arrival.
