The story

On this January day, low light turns the brickwork copper above the blue-green water. A small wave folds onto the sand, leaving a thin brightness along its edge. The fort holds its rows of shadowed openings above the moving surface, each arch repeating the next. Beyond the wall, a sailboat rests against the pale horizon, slight enough to seem almost weightless.
