About this piece

A pale, sinuous trunk reaches from the rocky shoreline across an expanse of blue water, its green foliage spreading overhead. Saturated blues and greens unite sea, sky, and shore, while textured bark and algae-covered stone give the foreground a tactile weight.

The story

I followed the curve of the trunk with my eye, from the rough bank out over the water and up into the leaves. Beyond it, the horizon held a straight line, a quiet contrast to every bend in the wood. I framed the rocks below as carefully as the branches above. What drew me here was that meeting of shapes: the tree reaching outward, the shore holding firm, and blue filling the space between.
