A pair of white Adirondack chairs anchors the foreground, facing a turquoise expanse where water and sky meet along a faint horizon. Sunlit foliage, crisp shadows, and the small silhouettes of a paddler and sailboat give this coastal scene its balance of intimacy and distance.
The story
I framed the two empty chairs as an invitation to look a little longer. Beyond them, a lone paddler occupied only a small part of the blue, while a sailboat marked the far edge of the view. The water held fragments of cloud, broken gently by ripples. I wanted to keep that space between the terrace and the horizon intact: somewhere the eye could wander without needing to arrive.
